Calvin Doiron's Indigo Agriculture Story

HEAR FROM OUR EMPLOYEES

How does Indigo facilitate professional development and skill-building for all employees?

"I have learned more working at Indigo than any previous job I have held. Presentations at the weekly R&D meeting are great ways to learn about other aspects of the organization. I always look forward to speaker series from researchers outside of our organization as well."

Calvin Doiron

What do you do on a day-to-day basis?

"My day consists of supporting both the grow room team and the field trial team. No two days are alike. Some days I may be planting over 1,200 plants in our growth chambers, and other days I might be traveling to visit a cotton field in Mississippi. I cherish the variability in my day-to-day activities."

Calvin Doiron

What technologies do you use at Indigo?

"I work in the grow rooms at Indigo, so I spend a lot of time inside our Conviron growth chamber (the largest growth chamber built by Conviron). This tech enables us to precisely control temperature, humidity, and light conditions to create an ideal environment for growing plants. "

Calvin Doiron

Why are you excited about Indigo?

"I am excited by the constant flow of new employees into our company. Every week there are new desks with new faces, and it's exciting seeing all the new skills and talent every person brings to Indigo."

Calvin Doiron

What unique skills have you developed over time in your role and at this company?

"I used to think I knew what working collaboratively meant before coming to Indigo. Working here I have learned so much about working with teams. Contributing to meetings and sharing my opinions are skills I have developed extensively at Indigo. "

Calvin Doiron

What is your background and how did you end up in your current job?

"My education background is in environmental science. After graduating I moved to Wisconsin, where I became involved with an agricultural soil science lab. After two years of agricultural research in the midwest, I returned to my hometown of Cambridge. I didn't think I would be able to find any jobs in agriculture in the area until found Indigo. I was hired as a research associate on the Field Trials team, and now I travel all over the country vising our field sites, taking samples, and meeting with cooperative researchers."

Calvin Doiron

How do you work with others in the lab at Indigo?

"Working in the grow room is a group effort. Preparing for experiment plantings requires coordination between all members of the team. By communicating with each other we are able to divide responsibilities when needed, and work together during crunch times."

Calvin Doiron

What would you say are Indigo's core values, and why do they resonate with you?

"One of the most visible core values at Indigo is its devotion to health and wellbeing. This translates externally by improving the healthfulness of food available to consumers, and providing a product that improves sustainability. Internally, the company puts a lot of weight on the health of its employees. Providing healthy food, subsidizing fitness memberships, and encouraging learning among its employees are only a few ways Indigo promotes this value."

Calvin Doiron

How does your company, or manager, measure whether or not you are successful in your role?

"Setting and reviewing quarterly goals with my manager is a great way to quantify my performance in my position. Goal review meetings provide a space where I can discuss any concerns I have about my performance with my manager, and my manager is always willing to provide positive and constructive feedback."

Calvin Doiron

How does Indigo help to encourage a healthy lifestyle?

"Indigo makes it hard to be unhealthy. By providing a kitchen full of healthy food, I always have nutritious snacks available. The Indigo yoga and boot camp classes are a great way to get motivated to work out as well."

Calvin Doiron

How are you mentored in your company and are there opportunities for you to mentor others?

"When new employees come onto my team, I jump at the opportunity to play a role in their training. Questioning is always encouraged, no matter what level you are in the organization."
