Chris White's Indigo Agriculture Story

HEAR FROM OUR EMPLOYEES

What do you do on a day-to-day basis?

"On a day-to-day basis, I produce, manage, and facilitate the marketing needs that support our commercial sales representatives, track and coordinate projects and budgets with our advertising agency partners, handle request for more information from leads generated through our website, and develop marketing mix components and create presentations for collaboration on those components. I am also responsible for our marketing-level customer relationship management systems, planning and facilitating special events and trade shows, and other outside marketing efforts. Lastly, I assist in projects with other departments and team members, as necessary. "

Chris White

What unique skills have you developed over time in your role and at this company?

"In the time that I have been working at Indigo, I have become much more proficient at managing several tasks at once and putting together presentations in a timely manner. Having been a consultant previously where most of my work was done independently, I have most certainly gained and developed skills for working and contributing in various team environments."

Chris White

What's the hardest challenge you've had thus far in your job?

"Time management is the most difficult challenge for this, or any job of this nature. This job requires a lot of thinking about a project or scenario and then putting it on paper to explain and collaborate over. Since our customer base is on a seasonal rotation, we have to stay ahead of ourselves to ensure that we do our best work and finish with time to make adjustments if needed. Also, since we are a new company with a new offering, we are ever-evolving in our approach to the market and ideas and directions change very frequently."

Chris White

What is your background and how did you end up in your current job?

"I had been working as an independent consultant for several different companies in ag-related marketing over the past 12 years. I was approached by a colleague who asked if I was interested in this position with Indigo. After learning more about the company and its mission, I decided to accept the offer. "

Chris White

Can you talk through the process of defining the marketing plan for your region?

"We are currently working on a marketing plan for several regions. Defining and developing a marketing plan involves several steps including: creating the story that we want to tell, defining the target market(s) and gathering research to support our efforts, composing and evaluating value propositions for our offering(s), testing messaging and defining personas, working with our ad agencies and developing creative efforts, and developing a strategy to deploy these efforts in a way that allows us to measure results."

Chris White

What is the opportunity Indigo is pursuing and why are you excited about it?

"Indigo is working to influence and disrupt agriculture on a global scale. Some of the targeted effects of this effort that are important to me include ensuring food production to feed a growing population, helping famers to become more profitable, providing a innovation to produce better quality foods for consumers, helping growers to become good stewards of the land, and helping to renew, grow, and sustain farm communities whose economies have been weakened over the past several decades."

Chris White

How do you go about building strong relationships, both with growers and within your marketing/sales team?

"We are visiting growers on their farms and other informal environments to ask questions, listen to their concerns, and build confidence in the Indigo story. Continuous outreach and an open forum for discussion is key to building strong relationships with growers. Within the marketing team, we make a very concentrated effort to communicate openly and often to ensure alignment on projects and ideas that we are putting forth to promote Indigo. We are a small, but rapidly growing, company working on new innovation in one of the most established and important industries, and that creates a unique set of challenges and opportunities."

Chris White

How is Indigo different from other agriculture companies?

"We are actually bringing products and ideas to market that are intended to increase agricultural production and economic sustainability for the farmer and farm communities. Other agriculture companies offer their products at a premium and believe that farmers will pay whatever it takes to produce a crop. We are presenting innovative ways to farm that will empower these growers with better control over their operations and increase their farm's profitability. "

Chris White

What is it about the Indigo "story" and model that gives the Company its wide appeal among numerous audiences and stakeholders - including investors and farmers?

"There is a need for innovation in agriculture and we have the ways and means to fulfill that need. We are in an industry that influences the daily lives of the global population, yet has a very slow progression in innovation and consumer outreach. We have an opportunity to help consumers to live better and for farmers to increase profitability while being good stewards in using the natural resources that they depend upon."

Chris White

Why is collaboration fundamental to Indigo's success?

"We have a collection of very intelligent individuals from different industries and different walks of life that collaborate and contribute to Indigo's mission. These different perspectives and individual talents ensure that innovative and progressive ideas are brought to the table early and often."

Chris White

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

"I believe that we are positively influencing both local and global agricultural communities. We're providing an opportunity for farmers to take control of their operations and provide for their families. We are also creating innovation that will allow the agriculture community to provide food for a growing global population. "

Chris White

What is unique about Indigo's company culture?

"Indigo has a culture of transparency from top to bottom that is unlike many other companies. Teamwork and communication is efficient and part of the daily routine at Indigo. Also, the company encourages a healthy lifestyle and offers a wide variety of perks as an employee."

Chris White

Do you feel you're provided the opportunity to offer up new ideas and contribute, in general, to the culture of innovation at Indigo?

"Absolutely. I feel as though I am constantly being encouraged to contribute to the culture of innovation at Indigo."

Chris White

How do you collaborate across departments and ensure a consistent line of communication at all times?

"We hold regularly scheduled meetings and collaborative work sessions to ensure that all individuals involved with a particular project and their departments are aligned and working towards the same goal(s)."
